Cyber Chameleon as you see it now is the result of 22+ years of being a Culture Club fan, and 7 years in the Culture Club fan-site business.

The first four years of Cyber Chameleon was a collaborative effort, co-run with Glenn from Ireland. I was contacted by him in June 2000 (he was the the webmaster of 'Boy George News') to collaborate on and merge our two sites (I was - and still am - webmaster of Lyrically Speaking). Our ambitious aim was to create a site that would "rival and surpass" all other Boy George / Culture Club sites on the net.

Unable to devise a suitable name, we held a 'Name our Website' competition - hoping we would find a name to best identify what we were all about - Culture Club and the Internet - and Cyber Chameleon, named by Judith, was it!

Launched in August 2000, Cyber Chameleon's first 18 months were a blur. Culture Club toured the US, and Glenn saw a couple shows from that tour and met up with some of his friends who he had corresponded with online. Through online chats, I also got to know Dawn from Canada, and Maria from England, and we came to be good friends. They became (unofficial, but definitely) members of the Cyber Chameleon team, and working on the site was an enjoyable process, usually preceeded by or followed with hours of chatting and catching up online. Our first year ended on a high in Vancouver, Canada, when I got to meet the rest of the Cyber team for the first time.

2002 saw Boy George's musical Taboo premiere in London, and the Cyber team (except me) met the cast, and interviewed them for the site. Culture Club's "20th Anniversary" shows in the UK were covered extensively by Cyber Chameleon, through Glenn and Maria's observations, who not only went for them, but managed to pop up in the front row of the Royal Albert Hall gig that can now be found in any good music DVD store!

2002 was Cyber Chameleon's peak - our team dynamics changed after that. Cyber Chameleon became either a drama or a chore to work on, and to spare us drifting apart as friends, we drifted apart as a working team. Maria and I met up in New York in October 2003, when we were both there for the first performance of Taboo on Broadway, brought to the Big Apple by Rosie O'Donnell. Thanks to her and George's team, we were one of the select few who got to see the full dress rehearsal of the show when the first weekend's previews were cancelled. Taboo on Broadway was fantastic - and I was so proud of George work as a songwriter/performer, and Rosie's vision that brought it to its (sadly, temporary) home in the Plymouth Theatre.

Anyways... back to Cyber Chameleon, the reason why you're reading this page! Phase one ended in January 2004. Glenn and I had a major discussion on everything to do with the site - and agreed that it will continue with myself as sole webmaster. That's not to say Glenn will never work on this site again - I'd love for him to do so if the opportunity arises, but he's not obligated to (nor are the rest of the Cyber team) now that Cyber Chameleon's no longer a group effort.

This phase of Cyber Chameleon is going to be different - and not just because of the new www.cyberchameleon.com address. It will be centred around Culture Club, and not just George (one of the many disputes Cyber had in its previous incarnation). It will focus on being more creative. It will march to the beat of its own drum. It will not depend on the news for updates - actually it won't be a news site at all. There are other sites which are better equipped for, and more interested in the relentless chase for news than I am.

Cyber Chameleon wouldn't be possible without the following for their love, support, inspiration, ideas and so much more... a BIG thank you to:

  • Kathy - Cyber Consultant, advisor... forget the kooky titles, I'll just say you're a great friend who I count on constantly and leave it at that! :)
  • Dawn - you're adorable! But you knew that already. LOL
  • Alison Hay for continued support at every avenue.
  • Alison and Matt for the kick-start chats to get Glenn and I to commit to this!
  • Jo, Josh, Lisa, Helen T of Oz, Chris, Stephen, Rhonda, Jason, Troy Brookes, Michael Wilton, Gaye and all the other Australian George/Culture Club fans I've made friends with going back from Lyrically Speaking's first days til now!
  • Olivier, Andrea, Marcelo, Shmulik, Gianluca, Edwin, Rocco Passafuime, Rainboy (Lorenzo), Jessica Hansson, Audrey, Estefani, Gary, Kristine, Kris, Julio, Dawn & Julie, Tina, Gabi, Jesus, Gitte, Ubbe, Elsee, Conny and everyone I've made friends with online "across the ocean" or who have helped out on Cyber/Lyrically Speaking over the years. If I've left out anyone, it's not intentional - just send me a mail saying "where's my name?" and I'll add you!
  • Stuart at 100% Boy.
  • Marianne at Choose A Colour, Find A Star.
  • More Protein and Red Parrot for the occasional spots of news when Cyber was a news-site. Thanks!
  • All webmasters of Boy George and Culture Club sites out there, who invest their time in keeping us informed or entertained on the web deserves a big thank you too!
  • My friends, family and co-workers for still putting up with this apparent "phase" I'm going through, and of course, not forgetting
  • George O'Dowd, Jon Moss, Mikey Craig and Roy Hay - Culture Club - to whom I am eternally appreciative for being a constant source of inspiration and entertainment through their work. Thank you.

    A special thank-you - and Missing you (bli-ind) to:

  • Glenn Cunningham, 'The Artist Formerly Known As Co-Webmaster'. Hope this incarnation of the Chameleon doesn't meet your expectations, but surpasses them instead! :)
  • Maria Georgiades, who'll always be Cyber Chameleon's 1st, best and only newshound, also former "London Correspondent" and "(unofficial) Webmasterette / Webmistress / 3rd Webmaster" - ditto for what I said to Glenn above!
  • www.globalcultureclub.com - easily my favourite, and now very much missed, Culture Club site.

Also - another special thank-you to:

  • Rosie O'Donnell for believing in Taboo enough to take it to Broadway! I really enjoyed the show and am disappointed it didn't reach the heights of success it deserved to. I also appreciate the good care you took of me personally regarding merchandising and ensuring I got to see Taboo on Broadway before I left NYC.
